Policy Statement
Regenerate Mentoring believes that carefully planned activities and outings are vital to helping young people build confidence, independence and social skills. However, the safety and wellbeing of participants must always take priority.
This policy ensures that all activities and outings are planned, assessed and delivered with due consideration of risks and safeguarding requirements.

Aims
To provide structured, enjoyable and safe learning experiences outside the usual setting.
To ensure all risks are assessed and appropriately managed.
To define clear staff responsibilities for planning, supervision and review.
To foster safe decision-making among young people.
Roles and Responsibilities
DSL: Jonny Doidge
Deputy DSL: Amy Doidge
Trip Leader: The staff member responsible for planning and delivery of the outing.
All Staff and Mentors: Must adhere to this policy, complete risk assessments, and supervise participants responsibly.
Planning Procedures
Activities and outings must be risk assessed using the organisation’s approved templates.
Parental/carer consent must be obtained in advance.
Staff must ensure appropriate supervision ratios are maintained.
Emergency contact and medical information must be carried at all times.
Transport arrangements must comply with insurance, licensing and safety requirements.
During Activities
Staff must conduct dynamic risk assessments throughout the outing.
The safety and welfare of young people must take precedence over completing the activity.
Any incidents or near misses must be reported to the DSL/Deputy DSL immediately.
After Activities
- A debrief should be held to discuss successes, challenges and learning points.
- Written records should be completed and filed for review.
Emergency Procedures
All staff should be aware of emergency contact procedures.
First aid provision must be available during all outings.
Serious incidents must be reported to the DSL and, where applicable, to local authority partners
Training
- Staff and mentors receive risk assessment and off-site safety training as part of induction.
- Refresher training is provided annually or following an incident.
This Risk Assessment policy and process will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains effective and compliant with current legislation.
