Policy Statement

Regenerate Mentoring is committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of all children, young people, staff, mentors, volunteers, visitors, and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. We aim to provide a safe environment for learning, mentoring, and activities both on and off-site.

We comply with relevant UK legislation and follow best practice to prevent accidents, promote wellbeing, and respond effectively to incidents.

Legan Framework

This policy is guided by:

  • Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974

  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999

  • Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) 2013

  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002

  • Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025

Aims

  • To provide a safe and healthy environment for mentoring, activities and work.

  • To identify, assess and control risks associated with our activities.

  • To ensure staff and mentors receive health and safety training relevant to their role.

  • To record, monitor and review accidents, near misses and incidents.

  • To work with schools, local authorities and partner agencies to maintain safe practice.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Overall Responsibility: Senior Leadership Team.

  • DSL (for safeguarding-related incidents): Jonny Doidge

  • Deputy DSL: Amy Doidge

  • Staff and Mentors: Must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others, and follow organisational procedures.

Risk Assessments

  • Risk assessments are carried out for all mentoring activities, trips and environments.

  • Staff are required to familiarise themselves with relevant risk assessments before activities.

  • Risk assessments are reviewed annually or when circumstances change.

First Aid and Emergencies

  • Appropriate first aid provision is available at all times during activities.

  • Staff are trained in first aid appropriate to their role.

  • All accidents and incidents must be reported and recorded.

  • Emergency procedures are in place and must be followed.

Safe Working Practices

  • Staff must use equipment safely and follow any relevant instructions or training.

  • Lone working procedures must be followed at all times.

  • Venues, vehicles and equipment must be checked regularly to ensure they meet safety standards.

  • Staff must report hazards immediately to management.

Training and Awareness

  • Health and safety training is provided as part of staff induction.

  • Regular updates are given to ensure staff remain compliant with legislation and best practice.

Monitoring and Review

  • Health and safety performance is monitored regularly.
  • Lessons learned from incidents are used to improve future practice.
  • This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if legislation or organisational practice changes.

This Health & Safety Policy has been approved by the Board of Directors and will be reviewed annually or as necessary to ensure compliance with current legislation.
