Policy Statement

Regenerate Mentoring is committed to promoting the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, young people, staff, mentors and volunteers. We have a zero-tolerance approach to the misuse of alcohol, drugs or other substances that could cause harm, impair judgement, or compromise the safety of others.

We aim to educate, prevent and respond effectively to substance misuse concerns, while providing appropriate support to those affected.

Aims

  • To ensure that all services are delivered in a safe and supportive environment.

  • To raise awareness of the risks associated with alcohol and drug misuse.

  • To provide clear procedures for responding to incidents of misuse.

  • To support children, young people and staff to make healthy choices.

  • To comply with relevant legislation and safeguarding responsibilities.

This policy is underpinned by:

  • Psychoactive Substances Act 2016

  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

  • Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025

  • Local safeguarding partnership procedures

Scope

This policy applies to:

  • All staff, mentors, volunteers, contractors, and visitors

  • All children and young people supported by Regenerate Mentoring

  • All premises, vehicles and activities connected with Regenerate Mentoring

Roles and Responsibilities

  • DSL: Jonny Doidge

  • Deputy DSL: Amy Doidge

  • All staff and mentors must report concerns about substance misuse immediately.

  • The Senior Leadership Team will ensure staff are trained and policies are enforced.

Prevention and Education

  • Staff receive training to recognise signs of substance misuse.

  • Mentors encourage open, honest conversations with young people around risks of drugs and alcohol.

  • Young people are signposted to specialist support services where necessary.

  • A culture of health and wellbeing is promoted through mentoring and activities.

Confidentiality and Support

  • Support will be offered to young people and staff affected by substance misuse.
  • Information will be handled sensitively but safeguarding responsibilities may override confidentiality.

This Alcohol & Drug Abuse Policy has been approved by the Board of Directors and will be reviewed annually or as necessary to remain compliant with legislation and best practices.
